Process serving · New Jersey and beyond

Process serving for New Jersey law firms

You send the papers. The server who has them sends the updates. Every job gets a first attempt within 48 hours, and the affidavit comes back within one business day of service.

Since 2003

Serving papers for law firms, with the tri-state area as home turf.

Attempted within 48 hours

Every job is handled as a rush. No upcharge for that.

Affidavit in one business day

Guaranteed after service is completed. Notary included.

No dispatcher

Status updates go straight to your email from the server.

How PDQ is different

No dispatcher between you and your serve

A lot of process-serving outfits are dispatch operations. The job goes to an office, the office hands it to whoever is closest, and when you want an update you end up calling someone who has never seen the address.

PDQ is Pete Cerruto's company, and it has been set up the other way around since 2003. You deal directly with the server handling your job. Questions about an attempt go to the person who made it.

It's also why status updates come straight to your email from the server, instead of through a portal or a front desk reading notes off a screen.

What we do

Papers served, people found, documents signed

01

Summons and complaint

Initial service on individuals and businesses in civil cases, with a notarized affidavit of service when it's done.

02

Subpoenas, including domestication

Witness and records subpoenas. We cover witness fee checks when they're needed and invoice you after, and we domesticate out-of-state subpoenas for service here. More on subpoena service.

03

Other court papers

Motions, orders to show cause, notices, and anything else that has to reach a specific person.

04

Skip tracing

When the address on file is no good, advanced skip tracing to find where the person is now. Difficult serves.

05

Mobile notary

We'll drive to you, your client or a witness to notarize documents. Pricing on request, since it depends on the distance.

06

Document retrieval

Pulling records and filings when you need a copy in hand.

After you send a job

What happens next

We check it first

Before anyone gets in the car, we look over the papers and the address. If something is missing or the address looks off, you hear about it now instead of after three wasted trips.

First attempt within 48 hours

Every document is treated as a rush. After the first attempt, we keep going back at different times of day until the person is served. Attempts are included in the price.

Updates in your inbox

Status updates go directly to your email while the job is open. You shouldn't have to call around to find out whether anyone has been to the house.

Affidavit in one business day

Once service is made, the notarized affidavit comes back within one business day. That's a guarantee, and the notary is included.

Where we serve

Tri-state specialists with a much longer reach

PDQ is based in Toms River. Most of the work is in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, and the deepest roots are in Ocean, Monmouth, Atlantic, Burlington and Mercer counties.

That's the home turf, not the limit. We serve anywhere in New Jersey and handle jobs elsewhere in the country and overseas. Send the address and we'll tell you how it'll go. More on where we serve.

When it doesn't go smoothly

If a serve can't be made

Some people have moved. Some won't come to the door. Before we call it, there are more tools: advanced skip tracing to find a current address, and stakeouts when someone can only be caught at one place and time.

If service still can't be made, you get an affidavit of due diligence showing every attempt, so you have what you need to take the next step with the court. Current rates are on the pricing page.

From a client

“He gets the job done no matter what time of day or night, no matter what the location, and communicates throughout the entire process… if I ask him to serve a Complaint, it will get done without me having to follow up every day to see how the process is going.”

Questions

Process serving FAQ

How fast will my papers be attempted?

Every document is treated as a rush. The first attempt is made within 48 hours of when we receive it. If service has to happen on a specific day or at a specific time, that's a custom rush. See rush service.

How many attempts do you make?

As many as it takes. Attempts are included in the price, and we change up the times so we aren't knocking on the same door at the same hour every day.

How will I know what's happening with my serve?

Status updates go directly to your email from the server handling the job. If something changes, like a bad address or a lead on where the person is, you hear that too.

When will I get the affidavit of service?

Within one business day of completed service. That's guaranteed. The affidavit is notarized, and the notary is included in regular service.

What does process serving cost?

Regular service is a flat rate that includes the notary and the affidavit. Custom rushes and stakeouts are priced separately. Current rates are on the pricing page.

Do you serve outside New Jersey?

Yes. We specialize in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, and we handle serves across the country and internationally. Call with the address and we'll walk you through it.

What do you need from us to get started?

The documents as PDFs, the name of the person or business, the best address you have, and your deadline. Anything else helps: a description, work hours, a second address. We print the papers here, and the first 50 pages are free.

What if the person has moved and we don't have a current address?

We run advanced skip traces to find where they are now. Send what you have and we'll start there. See difficult serves.
